10 Things to do for Clear Skin

Sorry for neglecting this blog ! Been really busy with lots of work stuffs and travel.

Today's post is on 10 things that I do to avoid breakouts and have clear Skin.

  1. Wash your face twice a day. Morning and Night. ( This is a ritual that i abide to regardless how tired I am )
  2. Steam your face at least once a week. ( I use add green tea leaves into the water )
  3. Apply moisturiser everyday. ( Its a misconception that people with oily skin are not require to apply moisturiser. Every one of all skin types needs moisturising of skin daily. Those with dry skin can use moisturiser that are richer while people with oily skin should use moisturiser that are water based.)
  4. Massage your face everyday. After applying my moisturiser, I massage my face in upward directions. This helps improves blood circulation and helps in lifting of skin.
  5. Avoid touching your face ( This is an important rule that is difficult to abide to BUT it is an essential one in keeping your skin clear from breakouts )
  6. Use Toner everyday. Toner helps in deep cleansing of pores ensuring no dirt are stuck in your pores.
  7. Drink loads of water. I drink 10 glasses of water a day. Water helps us to flush out toxins from our body.
  8. Eat lots of tomatoes and berries- Strawberry and blueberry. Tomatoes helps to flush out toxins from body. Berries are rich in antioxidant- helps to keep skin youthful.
  9. Ensure body has sufficient Vitamin A ,E and Zinc. If possible, from natural sources if not these are also available in the form of supplements. Do note not too overdose.
  10. Change pillow cover weekly- This is often something that most people tend to overlook. Oil from skin stains onto pillow case which causes breakouts when our face comes in touch with it again.
Here you go, these are my ten steps that I do to reduce breakouts and ensure good skin. Most of which are commonly known but are also easily overlooked.
Hope these information are useful !

Vitamin E Benefits

Vitamin E is a fat soluble vitamin with antioxidant properties which is known for its scars prevention/fading ability.

Apart from scar lightening effect, Vitamin E also has the following benefits:
  • Protects skin from UV rays
  • Helps reduce risk of Alzheimer and prostate cancer
  • Protect cells from free radicals which contributes to development of cardiovascular disease and cancer
  • Builds immune
  • Prevent or delay coronary heart disease
  • Reduce risks of cataracts and eye disorders
  • Reduce acne outbreaks

Recommended Daily Intake

There have been increased concerns on the effects of high intakes of Vitamin E, dominantly in patients taking blood thinning agent causing higher risk of bleeding.

Recommended daily intake of Vitamin E( Natural Sources ) for Adults- 15mg
Supplemental vitamin E - The National Academy of Sciences also establish a Tolerable Upper Intake Level (UL) for vitamin E of 1,000mg (or 1,500 IU of vitamin E in the form of alpha-tocopherol).

Sources of Vitamin E

Food that are high in Vitamin E
  • Sunflower Seeds
  • Almonds
  • Peanut Butter
  • Spinach
  • Broccoli
  • Soybean oil
  • Kiwifruit
  • Mango
Apart from natural sources, Vitamin E are also available in the form of supplements. It typically provide only alpha-tocopherol and are only 50% as active as the same amount (by weight in mg) of the natural form ("D" or "d").  Hence, people need  50% more IU of synthetic alpha tocopherol from dietary supplements and fortified foods to obtain the same amount of the nutrient as from the natural form.
